The Daily Life of a Digital Marketing Student

If you are thinking about enrolling in RGU’s Digital Marketing course, you may be wondering what a day in the life of a digital marketing student looks like.

This blog post will give you some insight and answer some of your questions about our daily life as digital marketing students!

RGU’s digital marketing courses take place on Mondays and Tuesdays. So even if you’re only in class twice a week, lecturers expect students to do a lot of self-directed study at home. That includes: reading articles and watching videos relating to subjects studied in class, writing essays and reports, and working on projects like performing an audit for a live client. This might seem a little overwhelming at times but trust me, you won’t regret it! You can read more about what we learned from week to week in last week’s blog post.

Now let’s talk about daily life as a Digital Marketing student at RGU.

First of all, classes start at 10 am and finish at 4 pm. Days on campus are intense. There’s a high probability that by the end of these 2 days you’ll feel like your brain is going to explode! There is so much information to remember. You will definitely learn a lot!

Morning

Here is an example of how our Digital Public Relations class is organised. We first start the day with a “warm-up” session. Each week, in groups of 3-4 students, we exchange our thoughts and opinions on a specific subject our lecturer gives us. Then we present our ideas to the class. This week’s subject was about finding innovative ideas to improve The Digital Scot website.

It’s a good way for each of us to express ourselves in public and come up with strong arguments and real-life examples to support our ideas. As we all come from different backgrounds, this session enables students to learn from each other. It also helps us better understand and broaden our vision on a digital subject.

Then, our lecturer continues the lesson through slides and case studies. For example, this week the lecture was about how Public Relations are used in the digital world.

Lunchtime

After working hard all morning, we all have an hour break and have lunch. It’s a great time to talk and get to know other students on the course. Everyone is very friendly. It’s also the time when everyone catches up with each other’s lives (as we mostly only get to see each other 2 days a week!)

Afternoon

In the afternoon, we all get into groups and start organising ourselves to make the Digital Scot website come to life! Some students are in charge of social media, others of creating new content for the blog etc. This task is repeated each week. It’s a great opportunity for us as students to apply what we studied in Semester 1 (SEO, Social Media, Content Marketing, Digital Marketing StrategyProduction Tools and techniques etc.) into the real digital world.

As you can see, daily life as an MSc Digital Marketing student is not all about theory. It’s mostly about understanding and being able to implement the tools you’ve learnt about in a working environment.

We hope this article was helpful. If you have any questions about the course, feel free to contact us! We’ll be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the daily life as a digital marketing student.
