Thank You and Goodbye from the Class of 2019

It is officially time for us, the Class of 2019, to conclude our time running The Digital Scot. With our class time coming to an end, our focus is now shifting towards our upcoming placements and our dissertation projects.

Since beginning our journey as digital marketing students in September, we have tackled a variety of projects, developed new skills and formed friendships.

We have had a great time working together and we really appreciate the help we have received from our partners, lecturers and everyone else who has assisted us along the way.

Let us round off what has been a busy and exciting time in our lives by reflecting on some of the highlights of the time we have spent as MSc Digital Marketing students.

The Sprint

We were joined by the Head of Digital at Fifth Ring, Steven Milne, who facilitated design sprint workshops. This allowed us to gain some experience developing ideas and marketing strategies around a client brief. It provided us with a real insight into how marketing agencies approach campaigns and will be really useful as we embark on our future careers.

Live Client Work

Working with Peterhead Prison Museum was extremely valuable in putting the theory we had learnt throughout the first semester into practice. We had the opportunity to conduct a digital audit and make recommendations for the website and social media channels. Several of us even had a consultancy session with Alex, the operations manager of the museum.

The Guest Lectures

Throughout the year, we have been joined by marketing professionals who have shared their knowledge, stories and career advice. This includes Alex Bell, Steph Asher, Fiona Smith and Jason Stewart. We would like to say a special thank you to everyone who made the effort to come in and speak to us!

So, what’s next?

Our class has a wide range of interests and aspirations, we all have so much to look forward to. Here is what a small selection of the class has lined up for the near future:

“I’ll be heading back down to Kent for a one-month placement with Reflect Digital in Maidstone as part of the marketing team. It’ll give me the opportunity to work on a number of SEO and PPC campaigns. I’m really excited to get started.”

David Westby

“I am currently taking part in a 12-week internship at Electronic Edinburgh. They run Nightvision nights throughout the year and run the biggest Scottish music festival, Terminal V. The experience has already been amazing, and I have found out so much about the industry. It has definitely shown me that I want to pursue a career in the events industry.”

Shelby-Leigh Kennedy

“I have recently been given a new role at my current workplace – the Kings Links Golf Centre. In the near future, I will begin working to improve their use of social media platforms, make changes to the current website and assist with the development of an upcoming project.”

Euan Alexander

Our final farewell!
