Our Handy Guide to Aberdeen Student Accommodation

Deciding if you want to dedicate a year to studying a masters degree can be a daunting decision, regardless of whether you’ve previously studied at undergraduate level or not. If you decide to take the plunge, one of the first things you’ll want to consider is where you plan to live whilst studying. It’s important to live somewhere where you feel comfortable and happy, somewhere you can relax but also study to your full potential.

If you are not local to Aberdeen, do not live in the city or commuting is not an option for you, we have compiled a list of just some of the many student accommodation options for you to consider in the granite city. If you are concerned about the cost of student accommodation, there are student loan and bursary options you can look into here. There are some accommodation options specifically for mature and postgraduate students too.

Craigievar Development

In a handy Garthdee location, Craigievar has eight one-bed studio flats which are a five-minute walk to campus and a 45 minute walk to Union Street. Housed in a three-storey block, it is split into seven self-contained studio apartments plus a single ground floor studio apartment adapted for disabled access. There is a large Sainsbury’s a five-minute walk away with a 24-hour Asda nearby too. Being a five-minute walk to campus and located in a quiet residential area, this site is particularly suitable for mature or postgraduate students who want their own space. Crathie Student Village

Crathie Student Village comprises of 14 flats in total. The flats are for five to eight people with two five-bed flats, one six-bed flat, eight seven-bed flats and three eight-bed flats. RGU has provided TVs in the lounge of each flat and included a TV licence so you can watch TV with flatmates or connect your console for playing games. Crathie Student Village is within walking distance of the university, shops and social life so if you want to keep transport costs down, this could be the location for you. Garthdee Towers

Comprising of two separate buildings, the Round Tower is seven storeys high with a lift and contains six five-bed flats. The Square Tower is five storeys high with one four-bed and three five-bed flats. Both have communal lounge areas on the top floor and a communal laundry room. The towers are situated either side of the Garthdee House Annexe with car park access via Garthdee Road. The campus is located in a quiet residential area and there are no facilities out of hours – if you want easy access to social activities this may not be the best choice for you. Ramsay Development

This location is exclusively for mature and postgraduate students and comprises of 28 en-suite bedrooms in communal flats close to the campus. The location is a five-minute walk to campus and 50 minute walk (or 20 minutes by bus) to Union Street. Ramsay Development comprises a single three-storey building with six flats. There is one three-bed, two four-bed, one five-bed and two six-bed flats. Just a 5-minute walk to campus and located in a quiet residential area, this site is particularly suitable for mature or post-graduate students who are less worried about social activities. Woolmanhill Flats

There are 600 standard rooms and 135 en-suite rooms in eleven five-storey blocks and each flat accommodates between five and eight residents. There are four five-bed flats, 56 six-bed flats (10 of which are en-suite) and 47 eight-bed flats (nine of which are en-suite). Each lounge has a Smart TV and RGU has provided a TV licence so you can watch TV, connect your console or use your own streaming devices such as Netflix. This location is a five-minute walk to Belmont Street, 10 minute walk to Union Street and 20 minutes by bus to campus. A co-op and a Sainsbury’s Local are nearby. Click here to find out more.

Mealmarket Exchange

Close to the city centre, Mealmarket Exchange offers studio and en-suite rooms. The modern facility includes bike storage, free car parking, a communal lounge and hosted social events for the students living there. Belongings are kept safe with 24-hour security for peace of mind. The accommodation is in a great location, only a few minutes away from the city centre with bus services nearby which will take you direct to the Robert Gordon University campus. u-Student Aberdeen

u-student Aberdeen is a newly built complex in the heart of the city offering the choice of modern en-suite or studio rooms to suit your individual need. Located just off the Union Street and Holburn Street junction, the location is a five-minute walk away from a bus stop which takes you directly to the Garthdee campus.
